McKinley Court Care Centre - Decatur, IL

McKinley Court held their annual Christmas party on December 15th.  Residents, their families, staff and various guests from the community gathered for fun, food, music and a chance to meet Santa Claus.
Earlier in the month, Activity Director, Pam Erwin, set up a an Angel Tree.  The Christmas tree was decorated with name cards of the residents.  Family, friends and staff chose a card and bought presents for that resident or donated money for gifts to be purchased for them.  All of the presents were handed out during the party.  As mentioned above, Santa Claus (played by Pam's husband, Rob) stopped in to visit with the guests.  There were appetizers and sweet treats available, including two chocolate fountains that were set up for guests to dip fruits, cookies and marshmallows. 
Larry "The Piano Man" performed in the activity room.  He is a frequent performer at McKinley and a resident favorite.  The "Country Cousins" brought in a karaoke machine and DJed in the dining room.  Between both rooms, there was entertainment for everyone. In addition to the music and food, Pam organized a 50/50 raffle with half the money raised going to the raffle winner and the other half going towards the Activity Department, to aid in the purchase of supplies and expenses for outings. A 3 foot snowman was also part of the winning package.
Overall, everyone had a wonderful time.  Administrator, Kim Jordan said, "It's always a wonderful party. The residents and the staff all look forward to it every year.  The Angel Tree is very popular and there are always gifts for everyone." Kim went on to say, "It's also nice to have all of the kids visit. Their excitement is contagious and the residents really love interacting with them.  Pam and the staff did a wonderful job organizing everything.  Everyone had a great time!"
